About CGA

“You possess more natural ability to play the game than you think. Call it intuitive knowledge, call it an inner genius-the fact is, it is there.”

Scott Cranfield, PGA Master Professional

CGA PHILOSOPHY

Along its journey CGA has been shaped by a few key beliefs…

Belief No 1 – Linking Mind & Body

Becoming the best golfer you can will never happen by focusing on just one aspect such as swing mechanics. As a human being you are a holistic integration of mind and body, and all the complex systems that come with that. You are unique. CGA coaches you as a unique individual. Your lesson plan will be tailored personally to you, and might include guidance in one of many areas from Technique to Psychology to Skill Development., and many more areas in between. We will get to the core of what you need to improve…

HOW CGA TRAIN COACHES

The heartbeat of CGA is our training system for coaches…

Scott Cranfield set up CGA in 1996 because he believed that his ideas were worth sharing with a wider audience than he could reach by himself. To do this he knew the coaches would have to be extensively and continuously trained, that was as true in 1996 as today. When coaches start with CGA they are PGA qualified, which in itself is an extensive training program of at least 3 years, where they develop a good understanding of how to help gofers improve.

At CGA we have 5 levels for a coach to progress through. They achieve this by consistently being a part of CGA’s ongoing training program. Our training days are a minimum of 12 hours long and a mixture of theory and practical in all the key areas of performance, namely…

CGA ASSESSMENT PROGRAM

Feel confused? Head spinning each time you play? Don’t know how to improve your golf swing? Practising hard but your handicap is staying the same? Ripping your driver but scoring badly?…

A thorough 60-minute assessment at a Cranfield Golf Academy will show you exactly what is needed to improve your golf. The assessment is completely personalised to your standard and therefore suitable for everyone. It is a thorough 60 minutes to really understand you and what you would love to achieve with your golf. It is only after gathering this information can we truly set an effective and personalised plan for you.

At Cranfield Golf Academy we have a belief that “There is a Better Golfer Inside Everyone”! Based on the concept we work with you to draw the best out of you rather than the traditional approach of bombarding you with information and techniques that will do very little for you other than to confuse you!

All CGA coaches are skilled at diagnosing the technical and mental aspects of a golfer, whether beginner or tournament professional. We shall be totally honest with our assessment and how we can help you.

After 60 minutes you will be presented with a suggested plan of improvement showing you the key areas of your technique and game that need improving to fulfil your potential and goals. The decision to have lessons following the assessment is totally up to you; you are under no obligation.

Our coaches are the most highly trained in the golf industry. They are personally trained and certified by Scott Cranfield and have completed rigorous training programmes. All coaches receive regular updates in the mental, physical and physiological aspects of the game and are reappraised bi-monthly.

CGA SWING MATRIX

The flow map below demonstrates the technical basis on which all coach training is to be conducted…

Since its inception in 1996 my coaching has been driven by a core question and belief…

  • “Is There A Better Way?” – meaning a more effective way to help golfers improve that is natural and fun!
  • “There is a Better golfer Inside Everyone!” – when you understand how the mind and body work you are left in doubt that everyone has a greater potential waiting to come out. I have been driven to find ways of drawing this magnificence out with brain compatible methods NOT technical jargon that bears little relationship to how the human mind and body function!

2011 CGA Swing Matrix

Below are some short notes to help you understand the map…

1- The Uninterrupted Swing:

Everyone swing has compensations; they always have and always will! This is a function of human beings and the fact that we are not robots and therefore our bodies have various idiosyncrasies that our brain is taking into account while trying to swing the club and execute the shot…

1 – You must let your subconscious mind move your body

We don’t move consciously. As a baby develops, there are various stages it naturally goes through as part of its development from new-born, to toddler, to child. As it goes through each stage movement patterns become hard-wired in the brain, allowing the baby as it becomes a child to move easily and quickly through all the basic patterns such as walking, squatting, pulling, pushing, twisting and climbing…..
